Between forest and ocean, a unique territory
Let yourself be carried away on a boat trip with the boatmen on the Courant d’Huchet, a unique site in Europe, starting from Lake Léon. A peaceful experience in the heart of preserved nature.
Also, set off to discover the nature reserves, such as the Orx marsh, the Étang Noir, the Courant d’Huchet, or Arjuzanx, true sanctuaries for numerous bird species.
Finally, take a trip back in time at the Marquèze ecomuseum and immerse yourself in the daily life of Landes inhabitants in the 19th century.

The most beautiful Landes beaches
The Landes coastline stretches for over 100 km of beaches, offering preserved spaces and wild nature.
In our village, two beaches await you: the magnificent Messanges beaches. Remaining natural and sparsely urbanized, they retain all their authentic charm. At the north beach, you’ll only find a snack bar and a lifeguard station, while at the south beach, only the lifeguard station is present. Here, no intrusive constructions: just the ocean and the dunes.
On the north beach side, you can also spot the semaphore, which overlooks the forest and offers an emblematic landmark of the landscape.
The Landes Forest, the largest in Europe
The Landes forest, one of Europe’s largest, is a true natural haven. Composed mainly of maritime pines, it covers over 65% of the department and offers a soothing setting, ideal for recharging your batteries.
Numerous walking trails are available for you to discover this unique environment, between the scent of pine and the gentle shade.
To vary the pleasures, you can also explore the forest on horseback or by electric scooter, for an original and immersive experience in the heart of nature.
Cycling and the Vélodyssée
Cycling is undoubtedly the ideal companion to discover the region differently, at nature’s pace.
Here, the landscapes reveal themselves differently: between forest, ocean, and small villages, every ride becomes a true moment of pleasure.
Many kilometers of cycle paths, including the Vélodyssée, allow you to get around easily every day: reach the beach, go to the market, or do your shopping with complete peace of mind.
Landes gastronomy and art of living
Landes gastronomy, generous and flavorful, will delight all lovers of good products. Discover the region’s must-tries: duck foie gras, confit, magret, not to mention local products like asparagus, kiwi, or peanuts.
For the most gourmet, the traditional Landes pastis will add a sweet touch to your tasting. All can be accompanied by a glass of Vin des Sables or Tursan wine, and concluded with a note of Armagnac.
If you want to eat fresh fish, go meet the fishermen in the morning at the port of Capbreton, the only fishing port on the south coast region, it’s one of the must-do activities in Landes.
